This year I decided to take part in the NaNoWriMo Challenge. Having abandoned the idea in November 2010, I was determined to set aside November 2011, and finally write something, anything.....and I have to admit that it has been one of the most rewarding things I have done in a long while.

On 1st November, at precisely 12.00 midnight I sat down with a cup of tea in front of my computer and I was off. I did have a vague plot and I was prepared to change things as I went along, so I was very relaxed. Then the inner critic/editor began to really annoy me. Each word, each sentence was spell-checked and edited, and I realised that if I carried on like this I would never finish this thing. I turned to the forums, and found that I was not alone. Someone suggested 'just write, edit later' another said 'write with your heart, edit with your head....but only next month'. This was good advice, and soon I was forging ahead, allowing the story to flow in whatever direction it needed to go. On 25 November it was done, I submitted it for validation and was declared a winner....one of thousands, but a winner no less.
